Because the small halal places that raise animals humanely and cut their throats delivery an equally good product for much cheaper than the small non-halal places that do everything else the same other than how they kill the animals. One is a niche market for wealthy yuppies, and one is an established market for south asians immigrants, that is also gaining a foothold among foodies who know good meat from bad.

And in the grand scheme of things, that means halal food is better for animal rights, and for me, as a consumer, than non-halal food.

Yes, and I explained why. We're talking in circles. Small farm, humanely raised meat is a thing, and if you're willing to cough up $40 a pound for a steak, great. More power to you. Halal upsets you, it doesn't upset me. If you're going to eat meat you need to accept that an animal suffered and died for something as trivial as your desire to eat something delicious. If you can't handle that, vegetarianism is an option, one which I have a lot of respect for. As for myself, I've come to terms with animals dying, I've killed a number of them myself. And I'll take clean, humane halal any day of the week over more slime-encased CAFO shitmeat.

The stunning method instantly knocks the animal unconscious. It takes some time for an animal to become unconscious from blood loss after having its throat cut.

We both agree that CAFO is bad for the animals. If you're doing the best you can, I respect that. But stunning causes less discomfort and I'm going to have an issue with any methods that refuse to use it.
