Should I start cooking professionally? (yes I am aware that it is not a glamorous job)

I'm thinking about taking a 9 month cooking program at a community college. When I get laid off at the end of the construction season I will qualify for gibs to fully pay for it, along with a living allowance while I go to school.

Alright Op I'm gonna help you out.
You will learn more from what I'm going to tell you than you ever will in culinary school. Listen up and listen up good.

Any job I get will suck. I'm not the type of person who is ever going to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc.

Different anon, but no. Cooking fucking sucks. You work when everyone else is off, get paid less, most of your coworkers will be assholes, and the stress level of being on the line is something you can't understand until you've done it. It's literally the most thankless job in existence.

Why would you go to school to get a job immigrants take for minimum wage
Cooking professionally isn't about knowing how to cook, it's about knowing how to improvise under pressure

I don't know about where you are but around here doing that program can mean getting a better job. Plus I might actually learn something, and at the very least I can essentially get paid to go to cooking school for 9 months. It doesn't seem like a bad deal tbqh.

Either way I am taking advantage of these gibs. It's either this or I go to trucking school.
