Growing my own pink oyster mushrooms and waiting for colonization
What foods do you guys grow, anyone here into mycology?

I was seriously looking into growing mushrooms in my home if possible. We eat a metric fuckton of mushrooms (usually crimini/baby bella) and wondered if it would be cheaper to grow a ton, I know they grow slowly but could be fun.

Have you grown mushrooms before?

This is my first time
May happen to have some cubensis growing as well (allegedly)

I would stay away from crimini and Portobello's tho
I was making a lot of them for me and my gf and it was delicious but we would be angry later... Then I found out they have some amount of toxic alkaloids that often remain after cooking
I switched to only shiitake and I'm much happier and healthier.

If u are looking into growing mushrooms bulk I would suggest wine cap and oyster
Oyster mushrooms can be easily set up for bulk grows from cheap substrates like straw
Wine caps will easily grow on your yard with a little set up and will help your plants grow much better
Shiitake can easily be set up for the fall just by hammering plug spawn into oak logs and they will grow with a little moisture

I want to grow some lions mane as they have incredible medical properties for the nervous system.

I've never grown mushrooms for cooking, only cubes, but once the mycelium network grows the little fuckers pop up like weeds in my yard. You have to plan ahead and have several grows staggered at different times so you have a constant flow, otherwise you'll be waiting a month inbetween harvests

Tomorrow I'm going to try outdoor cultivation of amanita caesaeria. I have twenty gallons of a spore slurry that has been incubating for the past 48 hours. I will spray the slurry around and beneath my pine trees. (they like pine). Hopefully they will propagate and Ill have a lot of mushrooms next year.

There are toxic alkaloids in white, cremini, and Portobello mushrooms and I noticed psychological differences when eating a massive amount of all three, as did someone else. she didn't even know these mushrooms or their qualities and she had the same symptoms... I oversimplified it and said angry because I figured most people on /ck are prob too immature to listen to someone talk about how small differences in the alkaloids you receive in your diet can have larger impacts

A buddy of mine ate a bunch that were growing in his yard. He had a few with no effect, then one day he ate a fuckload and began hallucinating blue cockroaches everywhere. He hasn't touched any kind of mushroom since. We joke about getting high off shiitake when he's not around
