Just got one of these barbecue salt stones, didn't pay much for it and I'm not sure of the quality but I want to try it out. Does anyone have any experience with it? As far as I've read it's very fragile when it comes to heating so I guess I have to heat it slowly?

Wetter foods will cook up saltier than dry foods. These will crack with use and eventually break up. The number of times you can cook with them is extremely limited. Get a huge granite mortar and pestle so you can powder the salt up later on when you no longer use the block for cooking.

what's the best way to chip the salt off and grind it up? I've only used one corner of mine and have ruined three or four knives so far.

the difference with fresh salt is amazing though. I could never go back to normal table salt.

Get a chisel or something similar. A stiff scraper is like 4 dollars at home depot

There's a number of videos on youtube telling you how to cook with one. Essentially, you use gradual heat on it, cook the food and then wipe it clean.
