You can't make it at home. The most important ingredient is the bread and theres nothing close away from the northeast.

On top of that you can't get the proper cut. All those recipes online telling you to freeze the steak just result in little chopped up pieces of steak that are far too small. Proper cheese steaks are made of steak that is evenly cut, large, and flowing like deli meat. The only butchers I've ever found willing to do that out side of philly already do it because they sell to Japanese customers that require it for sukiyaki. Most Asian grocery stores only have the frozen shit.

There's a chain around the Bay Area(and beyond?) called the Cheese Steak Shop, and I just fucking love that shit. The cheese is so creamy, it mixes in with the piping hot beef and veggies. Sweet and spicy pickled peppers, but not enough to overwhelm the savory elements and just these lovingly sauteed veggies.
