The food was alright but that might have been because I was a vegetarian (now vegan) at the time. I hardly ate for the first couple days because there was nothing I could eat. Then my parents complained and then I got all the good stuff straight from the cafeteria upstairs that was available to everyone except the psych unit kids. I got shit like waffles, pancakes, spaghetti, veggie burgers, mac and cheese.

They gave us a lot of teddy grahams for snacks. I remember they brought us bananas and I ate like 3 or 4 of them because I fucking love bananas.

i didnt get an oikos at mine. i dont think they had yogurt. but the milk, orange juice, pancakes, chicken and everything was incredible.

i think they add a bunch of addictive shit to the food to get people to eat it since half the loonies in there refused to eat.

you should meet the people in there. most of em arent sick or insane at all. most of them have shitty lives and fake suicides to get a week of free care

Not the psych ward, but it wasn't actually completely consensual; it was jail or treatment. Ended up being medicated for the better part of a month, which was just lost time. Don't know if it was a dream or really happened, but confident a male nurse blew me without my consent. He watched me shower, but I was so drugged up that it was only after the fact I realized it wasn't ok.

Wouldn't call it bomb, but head cook took pity on me and made me sunny side up eggs while everyone else got scrambled.

I voluntarily admitted myself twice. Once 10 years ago and once 2 years ago.

The food was amazing both times, shame about the herion addicts knocking on my door and asking for cigerattes. Had to call for a nurse to lock it every time I went to the cafeteria or out with my wife to get coffee when she visited.

I was in there to get my pain meds sorted both times. They deal with people in all sorts of crisi situations, they don't get enough credit for the scope of their influence. I had a rheumatologist appointment within 2 weeks of being admitted, they arranged fast track for MRIs etc. Absolute saints.

The last time I was in the psych ward the negro attendant served us green string beans, macaroni, and baked beans.

Now I knew perfectly well you didn’t serve two kinds of beans together at a meal. Beans and carrots, or beans and peas, maybe, but never beans and beans. The Negro was just trying to see how much we would take.

I ate as much as I could of the baked beans. Then I rose from the table, passing round to the side where the nurse couldn’t see me below the waist, and behind the Negro, who was clearing the dirty plates. I drew my foot back and gave him a sharp, hard kick on the calf of the leg.

The Negro leapt away with a yelp and rolled his eyes at me. “Oh Miz, oh Miz,” he moaned, rubbing his leg. “You shouldn’t of done that, you shouldn’t, you reely shouldn’t.”

“That’s what you get,” I said, and stared him in the eye.

What a bizarre story. Green beans and baked beans taste nothing alike. Mexicans put 2 different types of beans in chili, you're legit unhinged.

Except for the first sentence which I condensed, the rest is an excerpt from Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar.

I highly recommend it for anyone who feels isolated, depressed, "done" with the world, suicidal, or as the title suggests, "suffocating under a bell jar."

It's really easy to read and pretty funny. I don't know if spoilers work on this board so I'll put this in a hastebin: https://hastebin.com/javexawufu.vbs..

The main character is always teetering on the brink of insanity, a lot of the time you can't tell if she's messing around or actually psychotic or both
