Are suicidal thoughts just a part of working in the food industry?

It is quite a direct conclusion of the modern problem, which is to say the necessity (for the vast majority of humans) of mundane and yet potentially transcendal work.
I want to kill myself maybe once a month nowadays, but feel like I couldn't be happier 9/10 days.

Your existence is more complex than survive-->reproduce. Suicidal thoughts are a byproduct of this along with wierd shit humans have like fetishes and hobbys.

Once I started cooking professionally (originally just as a side thing) life started looking pretty bleak, which is why I drink.

line cooking the same thing, day after day while dealing with waitstaff is soul crushing.

I was lucky enough to work at a big conference center as a buffet cook. I got to cook different things every day and learn different dishes & techniques weekly. Also I didn't have to deal with waitstaff. Was pretty rewarding to see people enjoying the food. Having said that, forget about weekends off, and holidays off, if you want to work at a convention center.

at my restaurant, the pay is shit and most servers (and a lot of cooks, too) just pile shit back there without any consideration to order, e.g. like stacking plates correctly, but the dish guys get almost all the extra made food and other order fuckups since the chefs/managers don't want the FOH getting them

>99% of life on this earth follows the basic formula of dont die for (period of time) and you get to join a massive orgy of other (You)s and die right after you nut or a day later right after you lay eggs

So why did you get into it? My life is already bleak because I'm unemployed with no real skills. I figure things can only go up from here, and if I can turn my interest in cooking into an employable skill at least I will fit in with all of the misfits and scumbags who work in commercial kitchens.

>if you live in a city you're never going to be truly happy
This is true for most people. Yes, humans are social animals that like to be in big groups, but that's just too many damn people in too close an area for most people to not get stressed out about it even if they don't consciously notice it.

Cities are society's containment boards for people who can't function without a million other people around for one reason or another, don't go to them without good reason and don't stay there without an excellent reason.

>> No.10683588

I'm really isolated at work and I also live alone.
I talk to my boss for about 5 minutes at the start of my shift and that's pretty much all the human interaction I have.
Even if I look at my phone the last received call or text message was months ago.
I think I like it this way.

There are people who read Kitchen Confidential and get so pumped on the stories of debauchery and druggie chefs going down in flames only to rise from the ashes a phoenix, that they they think to themselves,
>FUCK YEA I WANNA BE A COOK
Some even actually go out and try it.
These people, more often than not, get eaten alive. Sort of like how guys watched Full Metal Jacket, got pumped on the basic training bantz or Animal Mother gunning down civs and said,
>FUCK YEA I'M JOINING THE MARINES
Some careers are meant to kill you if you get into them for the wrong reasons.

Seems to me this field does not really require any academics. Just decent time & people management. Maybe some accounting & legal knowledge if you want to open your own restaurant.

The thing is, it shouldnt be like that. Anybody can have a good time cooking in nice home kitchen with some music or a movie. So, I submit that the working world is full of scummy owners and bosses who simply don't think about creating a comfortable long-term working environment for the employees. And this extends into other industries as well, and also extends into the customer experience.

I work as a night manager, pizza cook. I choose this job BECAUSE of depression... I have anxiety and ocd, so I don’t have the balls/mindset to go in public most of the time. The night life is lax, pizza has low expectations, and I get paid a premium.
This being said, I’m typing this after 4 after work tall boys, as busy nights make for an urge to self medicate.
It’s welfare payday in leaf land as of 12am... Needless to say, I was running.
