He was sued by America's Test Kitchen (ATK) after he bailed on the show to create Milk Street with his wife, his personal PR person, assistant and the executive producer of ATK. She's 25 years his junior and his 3rd wife.

It was clear that the board (which he was a member of) was going to force him out of his active participation in the show. The last few months before he left, he and his wife used their access to collect all the information they'd need to start the new company: mailing lists, emails, contracts. recipes, and even some of the employees and freelancers working for ATK. This was done in secrecy.

What makes it messier is that he and his wife are still part owners of ATK, so while they're not employed there, they still have a legal responsibility to support the company.
