hey guys, inexperienced but enthusiastic foodie here. did I just fall for a meme? got a magic bullet off amazon.. was really excited for it to arrive, but I just tried to make salsa, and it's not doing a very good job. pic related. any tips?

Magic bullet is useless for everything except singe-serving smoothies.

You want a proper commercial grade blender. The two big names are Vitamix and Blendtec. I prefer the latter but both are very good. Other options would be an Oster, but make sure it's a pro model and not a home one.

Yeah this anon is right. I have the ninja which is supposed to be the "pro" version of the bullet and it's not good at blending anything other than powders, liquids, and paste. solids take time and stopped being processed for a bit. it is great for single servings, I use mine a lot for blending protein shakes but you can do that shit by hand so it's not really worth it lol.

Why pay for a brand name? Why not just find what hp motor they use and buy a Chinese knockoff that's just as powerful? Any suggestions?

It's pretty much made for smoothies, but you can do plenty of stuff with it. Did yours come with a blender attachment, or just the cups? Either way, it won't beat a quality blender, but it's easy for mixing up dry or very wet stuff quickly. In between wet&dry: not so much. The blender attachment is useful for stuff that sticks to the glass though, because you can push it down with the plastic pestle. Salsa is definitely not something easily made with just the cup, it'll stick everywhere and the knives will just spin out of control. Unless you keep taking out the cup and shake down the food in between pulses.

Reliability. Most of the chinese knockoff products are extremely unreliable. If you want to toss the dice with reliability then go ahead. I learned my lesson with that shit years ago--you can buy good stuff once, or you can buy cheap shit over and over again. The latter usually costs more money. It certainly costs more frustration.

>>Any suggestions?
Yes. Blendtec or Vitamix. If you're looking to save money I know you can get factory refurb blendtecs with a full warranty. Last I bought one they were about $200. That was a few years ago so I'm not sure if things have changed. Given how useful they are in the kitchen I think that price is very reasonable.

This is valuable advice. Either buy American products or buy your Chinese garbage at the dollar tree and pay what it's worth ($1).

Maybe it's because I have never owned a blender but I can't think of anything a blender can do besides make smoothies. What else can it do that a food processor cannot?

>magic bullet

return, buy nutribullet if aim is to make smoothies

if not, return and buy something else like a food processor

blenders below $500 are not worth owning

Crush ice for "frozen' drinks like margaritas
grind spices
make flour
make nut butters
make pureed soups (bisque) and sauces

Food processor is a low-speed appliance. It's main purpose is for slicing or grating foods. Blender is a high-speed appliance. It makes fine, smooth, things.

>why not just buy the chink version of a product that spins a blade at thousands of rpm inside your food?

ever eaten a jagged fragment of steel? there's a lot of great chinkshit out, but big word of advice: save chinkshit for stuff that doesn't touch your food.

If you're making a chunky salsa, you should drain it after you make it. Run it through a strainer. It sounds simple but really improves the quality of a salsa (especially if you're using it to make a guac).

Just looks too chunky. Blend it some more. Try this recipe for some green avocado salsa
>boil a few tomatillos
>1 green jalapeno or 2 if you want it spicey
>1 clove of garlic
>some cilantro
Blend it until its nice and smooth but not too thick and enjoy it on some tacos or chips.

Forgot to tell you to add a bit of water from the pot used boiling the tamatillos and jalapenos (forgot to add that as well boil the jalapenos everything else is fine).

i have a nutribullet that i use basically daily

i've had it for like 6 years and the motor runs great. had to buy one replacement cup because i was drunk and broke one once.

i mean, for the price, it's really not bad. good for shakes and stuff. sometimes i grind spices in it.
