I used to be the kind of guy who would argue that the sauce doesn't matter and that the cheese and toppings matter more. But now I'm more of the thought that the bases are what matter most. The crust should be good, and the sauce should be great. The cheese should also be good, and if you have a great basic pizza, the toppings are unnecessary; but if you were to get any it should be only about 2 or 3 if they're small toppings.

If I had to make the perfect pizza for myself I'd say: amazing crust, amazing sauce, some good cheese like moz and some Parmesano-reggiano; and toppings would be peppers, black olive and maybe a meat like sausage.
