The correct way to go about things is to look at foods objectively, that is, as their absolute chemical composition, which for simplicity we can narrow down to fats, carbohydrates, protein and water.

Protein is good and necessary. So are fats (saturated and unsaturated equally). Carbohydrates are needed. An excess in consumption from any of these three will cause problems, however. Key word is excess. Without a doubt, exercise and biochemical individuality also play a role in one's health.

The real danger is an excess of sugar, as in sucrose, and any form thereof. Sugar is ubiquitous and thus easy to over consume, especially in beverages. Coupled with people's sedentary habits and general ignorance, the result is the current state of America's health epidemic.

Fun fact: metabolism of fructose yields aldehydes which are the building blocks of cholesterol. Dietary cholesterol is a mere fraction of people's cholesterol problems.

red meat is generally harder to digest. as you get older and your metabolism slows down, you will find it harder to eat like you used to and not notice changes on your body and potentially health in the long term. it's also worth noting that different bodies react differently to things and habits. when people generalize, they usually talk in statistical terms. for example, eating a lot of processed meats and having little fiber in your diet increases your risk of colorectal cancer. that doesn't mean you'll get it, it just means you're at a higher risk. same goes with any other food and any other condition. just keep a balanced diet and don't overthink things. definitely keep an open mind and don't be retarded on the other end of the spectrum and die of a heart attack at 40 because you wanted to spite some hipsters.
