A YouTuber has been arrested after sharing videos of herself cooking and eating protected and endangered animals.

Ah Lin Tuch caused mass-outrage when she presented her 'survivalist life' videos, in which she skins and eats a number of animals including protected species of birds, an endangered type of cat, lizard, shark and even a king cobra, the Metro reports.

After the clips were shared on YouTube viewers reported her to authorities for tucking into the animals near her home in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where many of the animals are protected.

Tuch and her husband Phoun Raty were eventually tracked down by the Cambodian Ministry of Environment and have since issued an apology for 'destroying wildlife'.

She said: "I don't even know what kind of animals or birds we used or their impact on wildlife conservation.

"I bought the wildlife at Preak Phnov and we started filming our videos since December. Now I have already admitted my mistake."

The couple say they bought the animals at a local market before cooking and eating them. Authorities are now investigating these claims to attempt to establish if they were bought from an illegal market stall or captured in the wild.

Chea Sam Arng, head of the Environment Ministry's General Directorate for Administration of Nature Conservation and Protection, said: "We are now in the process of taking legal action against them while the working group is preparing a report on the matter.

"The animals that were cooked were mostly not on the endangered list, but are protected. Only one species was in danger of extinction."

Tuch has since removed the clips showing her eating the cat, lizard and some of the protected birds - but the channel still has videos of her chowing down on frogs, a shark and stingray.
