Leftovers about half the time. Sunday roast morphed into a nice sandwich, from roast turkey, roast beef, meatloaf. Sandwiches was it. Bad days it was apple jelly and PB, but I loved it cold from the drink. Whole apple, banana, grapes or maybe carrots.

Never a cookie or anything unhealthy like Lunchables. Cafeteria was actually pretty great in elementary and high school Middle school was bleh, and packed lunches alot. Elementary was southern cooking, high school was PTA run "stations" like a great restaurant, from a carving station to a salad bar to a wok. Also, my high schools were "open campus" and people were able to go out to lunch and drive like maniacs to be back on time. That was before 9/11 and campuses that were easy to do lockdown on.

Where i'm from school went from 7:00AM to 12:30PM, so we didn't really bring lunch to school, just a small snack. My father used to make me these white bread bologne sandwiches. Sometimes, when I came back from my mother's house in the weekends, she and my grandmother would give me dosh, and I'd take whatever money mother had given me and buy a chop cheese or some burger king after school. I'd also get those caramel "frappe's" McDonald's had, mainly because all my friends got some (I went to a faggy art school where the pussies were tight but the brains were wide open). We had so many stores around our area. One time I'd brought all my friends, and gf, Little Caesars just to stunt, and I felt like the kind of the world. Now I don't talk to anyone from high school; they all presumably forgot I existed, and my closest of friends at the time won't return my messages on Facebook. Ain't life a kick in the head

It teaches students that the spaces they occupy are their own, and it heavily discourages vandalizing desks and whatnot because you know you'll be the one to have to clean them up, just like it discourages others from doing it because you know how lowly everyone will think of you for pushing more work onto your fellow classmates.
When you graduate, it's customary to clean your desk one last time, so that whoever inherits it for the years to come can enjoy it as much as you did.

It's not some nightmarish ploy to save money, it's part of school.
