is it possible that jam is still good for months after it's been opened and just kept in a closet?
there's no mold and it smells just fine
but then again, it's been sitting there for at least 2 months

>> No.10599250

if it looks and smells fine, it's probably fine. If it tastes fine, it's probably fine

Yes, it's possible that it's still good. Anything that's loaded with a huge amount of sugar is preserved, the exact same way that salt works for preserving food.

The best way to check if something is safe to eat is to eat it first then decide hours later. It's foolproof.

Jams are called
'preserves' for a reason anon

Tell that to my roommate who left an opened jar of jam in the cupboard for a month before it developed mold. It was about 2/3 full.

How on Earth is he going to tell that to your roommate?

>left an opened jar of jam in the cupboard
well no fucking shit

You didn't prove anything other than your roommate is a retard.
next you'll be saying you're surprised that cured meats go bad if you leave them outside to sit in the sun for 3 weeks

Are you European? It's a saying not meant to be taken literally.

Was this you? >>10599284
OP asked if an opened jar would be safe. >>10599284 poster proceeds to say >Jams are called 'preserves' for a reason anon
I relay an anecdote wherein my roommate unsealed a jar and then stashed it away and you come at me with this stupid disapproving comment. Truly enlightening stuff.

Of course it would go bad. My roommate was retarded you idiot. And >>10599284 is an idiot for implying improper storage is ok because it's called 'preserves'.

Why did you make this thread?

I didn't make the thread. I dropped by with an anecdote relaying my disapproval of >>10599284

Not like it matters since OP was probably shitposting anyway

And seriously, who the fuck doesn't refrigerate their jams? OP and all others like him should be ashamed.
