Looking to buy a water filter but don't know where to start. What kind of filters do you recommend (we go through about a gallon a day)?

>> No.10569280

>>10569240
Brita is fine and you can buy their replacement filters in a 10-pack. I go through about the same amount per day and just top off my pitcher every couple of glasses of water. I need a new filter every 30-45 days.

I'd recommend a pitcher that filters water as it's added, not the kind that filters water as it's poured.

Britas and they clones work, but the fact is that the cartridges are very expensive compared to the alternative.

Get pic related. Install it under your sink. The filters are available at any hardware store, and are orders of magnitude cheaper than Brita when you consider your cost per gallon of water. These take industry standard filters so you are't stuck paying for a specific proprietary name brand.

You can hook them up like this, with a dedicated filtered water faucet. Or you can go the simpler route and just splice the filter into the cold water line.

if you go through a gallon a day, maybe it's better to invest in one fitted to your plumbing?

A gallon a day isn't hard to do in a brita. That's like 3-4 refills.

>> No.10570827

Hard? No. Expensive? yes. There's zero reason to keep paying that kind of money when the ones you plumb in are really easy to install and so much more cost effective.

Water is so nasty i just drink boiled piss. I only drink orange juice, milk, soda and other bottled garbage.
It's all garbage but better than the h2o.

Keep in mind you should have renter's insurance, and might want to check the coverage if you cause a flood, not just to floors that might be below, but if there are cabinets that aren't wood, they will swell up and be ruined if it leaks. Otherwise, these tanks are indeed awesome.
You might consider how much cold water you want handy if it's enough for your current system to keep up with. A large fridge will take a nice 2.5gal shelf tank, and you're never out (just pour into the top of it occasionally). If it's a faster filter, you can fill up your own pitchers, one by one, and park in fridge. I love a glass bormioli 1qt with lid, which I own x3. They fit in my top rack dishwasher. I fill them with filtered water at bedtime, while it drips one at a time..it all goes on while I am busy with dishes. Nightly routine.

I have a PUR filter on my faucet and a brita pitcher for my fridge in my apartment at uni. Works pretty well although the pitcher can sometimes be painfully slow to filter. You have to be good about filling the reservoir if you pour out a glass.
