Ive been to a few jails and the food isn't terrible, its usually just not hot when it gets served. Its usually much healthier than what most people eat on a regular basis. As for the canteen type stuff people made, its usually not as good as people think. People have fond memories of it because they are hungry because they are "protesting" what the jail is serving. Ramen noodles and tuna mack with hot sauce usually isn't good, unless you haven't eaten in a few days.

I got jailed for the weekend once in the UK for basically just being a cheeky cunt to a copper.

(They can arrest you for virtually fuck all, but if it's at the weekend, the courts don't run, so they can detain you until the Monday morning no matter what)

I'm vegetarian, and the offered me the choice of either beef curry, or chicken curry.

After explaining that being vegetarian meant I didn't eat meat, the cunts then reiterated their offer of either chicken or beef curry.

I told them I couldn't eat it, and eventually they gave me a mug of baked beans.

Over the two days I was detained, they only gave me one cup of baked beans. Cunts.

Ok well i've done time. Its basically a cafeteria tray they gave me. It was like a tv dinner thing with some tasty slices of turkey and you have your veggies and then a nice fresh baked bread roll that everyone would fight over. Not literally fight, but that bread roll was a hot commodity because you could sneak it back into your cell for later.

I know in my county jail in the poorest state of the union breakfast is oatmeal and some beginning to rot fruit. Lunch is always a baloney sandwich with stale saltine crackers and the same semi rotten fruit. Dinner rotates between ham and beans with a slice of cornbread and stew made from pork necks or hocks with a slice of cornbread. There was no commissary. Think about the torture of enduring that day in and day out. Godawful.

was in jail for a week. all the meat is badly composed, multicolored slabs of whatever. tastes horrible. the veggies are bland and watery. the other sides are usuallly small pieces of cornbread or two slices of generic thin wheat bread. people would go apeshit on tater tot day once weekly. if you dont have people giving you commissary money to buy chips ramen and sodas you are in bad shape. a ramen noodle soup in jail is as exciting as a hot fresh pizza out in the world.

I didn't do the chow hall. The motherfuckers they put in the kitchen aren't ever getting out. I was in Tarrant County Jail (Fort Worth, TX). The food wasn't good and the portions were small. It encouraged the inmates to spend their money on the very expensive commissary garbage. Mostly people bought ramen. They called them Soups. "I just got my soups, dawg. You get any soups?" Fucking idiots.

I was also in jail near Detroit. They gave me an Otis T. Spunkmeyer blueberry muffin once a day. Nothing else. Luckily I was only there for three days.

Jail food, in my experience sucks ass. I have no information regarding prison chow.

I pieced money up every month with my celly cuz we was the same set and we was cool. no homo. some fools get robbed so be careful. you can get wrapped up quick inside even when you didnt do nothing so dont go telling fools you got money. if you poor then fuck it you dont have a choice anyway just make the best of it, you can always trade up food just make sure you know what they are saying when you trade up.

I've been in holding cells and everything was served piping hot.
It was mushy pasta or pbj sandwhiches or a burrito which was nice.
It's all samey and gives you the most oily shits you will have. It was basic shit to survive but it wasn't horrible.
When i got tried i was told the food is the same in the actual prisons by other scumbags and to be quite frank and honest with you famalams i would be able to live off and enjoy the food if i ever wound up in jail in my area. Some of it isn't that bad. I've had worse cooking from people's mothers.

I'm with you on this. Granted they were connected to medical hospitals, and hospital food is worse than the shit I got in middle school. I grew up poor and I've been homeless, I'm not picky. That shit was foul.

But, if I was a good boy this one psych ward would allow us to get food from the cafeteria where doctors, nurses and security got their food. It wasn't amazing or anything, average at best but it felt like heaven. We were even allowed outside for a few minutes sometimes.

I used to trade pencils and get blow jobs or handjobs in exchange for sneaking in candy to other patients. Though most of them asked for razors and anything sharp, so they could hurt themselves. Used to feel sad about it despite I never gave it to them but now when I think about it, if they really wanted too they could have just taken the staples out of packages or broke some plastic sporks if they were that desperate. They were attention seekers compared to this really nice but absolutely traumatized girl who was completely normal 99% of the time but bit a fucking vein and tendons out of her wrist when she got her drawings taken away.
