Pic related. I often have bad experience with IPAs but this one is solid.

>How overrated is Sierra Nevada

I wouldn't call them overrated. They're a sort of macro-micro. You can get their Pale Ale for around $8-9 a 6 pack. That's a good value for what it is.

I like Sierra Nevada. They are a good beer to fall back on if I don't feel like trying anything new.

Lagunitas is great too.

Do you ever notice that thing with IPAs where they will sometimes almost have a weird sweet flavor to it? I usually notice it when it's the higher ABV ones.

What's the deal with that? Is it something to do with the alcohol?

Their seasonal beers are nice, as well as their stout. The stout isn't anything exciting, but for a standard 5-6 percent stout it is okay. Sierra Nevada as a whole though I don't think is "overrated" as most people don't rate them very highly in the first place, at least here in California, it's kind of like the budweiser of craft beer out here.

Almanac Passion Project dry hopped sour farmhouse ale aged in oak barrels with cedar spirals, passionfruit and spices

Little disappointed, but only because Almanac are usually so great. Just a little basic, expected a little more complexity.

Generally high ABV beers have a lot of malt added, because malts have the sugar that turn into alcohol in the brewing process. A good imperial IPA should taste pretty balanced rather than be a total hop bomb

Been drinking Bale Breaker Top Cutter IPA. Its from Yakima, WA and must be dry hopped quite a bit. It has that very floral taste that I normally associate with fresh hopped beers.

It isn't. The Celebration Winter IPA is a really good beer. The Pale Ale, Torpedo, Narwhal, and Bigfoot are all solid too.
