sometimes in interviews he seems to be aware that his target audience is the lowest common denominator of slobbish numb-paletted buffoons that ever did live and if that's truly his intention then he's done a fairly good job of pretending his recipes are for normal people. It's probably not pure luck that both his sauce and media escapades haven't both tanked yet because god knows the quality of either isn't enough to promote itself. He also never really claims to be amazing and can admit when he's wrong so he's not completely deluded.
But then there are the warning signs like when he makes york-shy-our puddings which he would know were wrong if he looked at even one reference photo. he doesn't understand that the main purpose of cooking chicken is to make it no longer raw, not as a way to add more flavor which is a consistent theme in his videos, he always focuses on what he can add to meals to mask his mistakes rather than actually cooking it right. This indicates he really has no idea what he's doing
Also the people who know him also show that he has more character flaws, his wife and son are irritated by him to the point of mainly ignoring him or answering him monosyllabically and his brother has to explain to him what a book or a homosexual is like he's a child.
