ITT: Unpopular opinions

Fresh tomatoes make better pizza sauce than canned tomatoes.

>> No.10527739

>>10527737
How's that unpopular? If you have fresh ripe tomatoes, use them.

That is a popular opinion actually. It just it takes more work than using a jar of pizza sauce, or using canned tomatoes.

Faglords seem to only think San marzano tomatoes are worthy so you have to stock to the canned shit. Also simmering for 5 hours doesnt make the sauce any better

Fresh local seasonal ones absolutely.
The problem is that a lot of the time people get fresh tomatoes from the store and it's some watery tasteless bullshit that was forced to grow in three days in a greenhouse.
The ones in the cans tend to actually have some flavour to them.

This. Most of the year, canned tomatoes are the only way to get tomatoes that have any flavor. During the time you can get fresh, ripe tomatoes, though, that's the obvious choice.

That's not an unpopular opinion, BUT, if you don't have fresh, vine-ripened summer/fall tomatoes it just won't taste that good.

>That's not an unpopular opinion

This. It's common knowledge that if it's not tomato season and you're buying grocery store hot house shit, canned will always taste better. Stupid thread.

>b-but i grow my own and they're always better

No, they're not.

>> No.10529315

>>10527747
San Marzanos also grow and are sold fresh in the US, so you can always grow your own if your markets don't have fresh.
Also, there's different varieties of San Marzano tomatoes. A couple years ago I planted a quarter acre of different San Marzano varieties, and my two favorites for using as sauce were Tiren and Pozzano. The Paisano variety is good for making paste and crushed tomatoes, and the Speckled Roman variety I think was best used fresh. But all those are varieties of San Marzano.

Unpopular opinion #134: most hot sauces are overrated garbage, and the best ones are the classics you'd use for cooking. Fresh salsas and fresh hot sauce homemade is 100% better.

You dont have to butter bread before adding peanut butter, jam, vegemite etc. Its a waste of butter and risks getting butter remnants in the jar of whatever other spread you use which is disgusting.

This.
The real trick is to make sure you spread peanut butter on both sides of the sandwich and put the jelly/jam in the middle so the bread doesn't absorb too much liquid from the jelly and get soggy/soft.
Although peanut butter and pickle sandwiches are superior anyway.

THe problem is with San Marzano tomatoes, unless you happen to live in a place that grows them nearby you can not buy properly ripened ones because they collapse under their own weight when being transported any sort of real distance.
