Just went to Safeway to grab some stuff to throw on the grill. Decided to grab some milk and oj. Go to the dairy section and grab a gallon of milk. Grabbed the wrong one and tried putting it back in. Started pushing the gallon back up so I can fit the wrong one I grabbed back in. All I hear is a fall and a loud splash from the back of their fridge.

All of their produce is fly ridden and moldy, they only carry the absolute lowest tier of off brand food stuffs, and there's a maximum of 2 people working at any given time (they divide their time between cashiering and stocking)

What do you mean? It's not a board-specific thing. A lot of grocery stores just have Jesters who pretty much just goof off and fuck with you. It's more common in the UK, but there are still plenty of states that have them.

Basic history is that they started off as an advertising thing. Like some marketing gimmick that one chain used. All he did was go around and hand out coupons and free samples; nothing too silly. Then they unionized, or there was some loophole with their contract; I don't know the specifics. Basically, they took it to court and made it mandatory for all grocery stores in the state to employ one. They weren't really bad, and it opened up jobs, so no one fought too hard.

But again, loopholes with their union/contract/whatever (shit I don't understand). They basically became IMPOSSIBLE to fire. So you'd have dudes get the job, then fuck off and not give a shit; as long as they were there and didn't get convicted of a crime, they were golden. Hence, the modern grocery store jester. 99% of the time the dude just naps in the back until he's worked long enough to collect a pension, but some people really take advantage of the freedom and constantly toe the line; makes your shopping trip a living hell.

CO here. We have Sprout's too. And growing up there used to be a bunch of Albertsons but they mostly moved out. Safeway's are around but they suck compared to King Soopers

I've lived in Texas 36 years and never seen a United. I know of a Whole Foods but there aren't any anywhere near me. I remember Fiesta from Houston but I haven't seen one in 20+ years. Randall's was a big thing years ago but I have't seen many recently.

I have, however, seen tons of HEB and Kroger.
