Brought a whole new level of fun to cooking for me with Good Eats. I've loved helping my parents in the kitchen for as long as I can remember, but Alton adding the science and history angles elevated cooking from "oh this is a fun way to spend an afternoon with Mom or Dad" to "WOO SCIENCE!!" for my geeky-ass third grade self.

legitimately knows his shit. i learned more about cooking from good eats than i did naturally. most of what is on that show is mirrored in what is taught in culinary schools. also, there is an episode of good eats for almost anything that you would do in the kitchen, from an episode solely devoted to making pie crust to general kitchen knowledge and even equipment.

>Brown said in a December 2014 interview in Time that he "could no longer abide the Southern Baptist Convention's indoctrination of children and its anti-gay stance" adding that he is now "searching for a new belief system."[39]

>Mr. Brown, who describes himself as “difficult” and “a terrible workaholic,” has never been in a more reflective period. His divorce from DeAnna Brown, his second wife, with whom he had a daughter and built an empire, became final on May 13, 2015. She got the 7,000-square-foot historic brick home in Marietta, a couple of miles from the compound, which went to him.

>“It was a sad time,” said the Rev. Bryant Wright, the pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, where Mr. Brown was immersed in baptismal waters in 2006.

>The church tried to keep the couple together, but Mr. Brown “was determined to get a divorce,” Mr. Wright said. The former Mrs. Brown, a woman so devout that she kept a Bible on her desk at the “Good Eats” studio, did not respond to a request for an interview.

>Mr. Brown, who said that over the years he gave a significant amount of money to the church, formally resigned from it, and he remains bitter about pressure from church leaders to fall in line. He still prays, but says his concept of God is evolving.

>> No.10476356

Yfw Alton Browns life is pretty dark

>On Mr. Brown’s last day as a sixth grader, his father was found dead at the family’s home with “a Hefty bag taped to his head,” Mr. Brown said. The police determined that it was a suicide, but Mr. Brown still believes that his father may have been murdered.

>His mother would eventually marry four more times, and with the marriages came stepsiblings. He is not close to them, and keeps his mother at what he called “a 100-mile distance.”

>“His mother would eventually marry four more times, and with the marriages came stepsiblings. He is not close to them, and keeps his mother at what he called “a 100-mile distance.”

>“My mom didn’t have a lot of respect for me until I became famous,” he said.

>He often jokes that his success is a way to show her that studying drama and film in college wasn’t a waste after all.My mom didn’t have a lot of respect for me until I became famous,” he said. He often jokes that his success is a way to show her that studying drama and film in college wasn't a waste after all

>After the divorce, he started drinking too much, he said. He indulged his sweet tooth, which leans toward peanut M&Ms. The result was an extra 20 pounds. He had lost a significant amount of weight a decade earlier, and was in no mood to return to what he called his chunky monkey period. He quit drinking. He worked out, which he says he can sometimes do to excess.

>Food Network owns “Good Eats,” so he doesn’t make a penny from the revival.
>Mr. Brown makes more from one episode (...of cutthroat kitchen...) than he did from the entire first season of “Good Eats,” he said.

>“Unless you have a medical bracelet that says celiac, shut up and eat the food,” he said. “We want to be so special. We not only want to be special for our cooking, we want to be special for our eating. There are times when vegetarians should shut up and eat the pork chop.”

>> No.10476435

Still, for all his forcefulness and clarity on any number of topics, Mr. Brown seems to be seeking clarity on matters more internal. “I’m not where I thought would be at this point in my life,” he said, “but I’m wiser by a long shot.”

Still, he said, taking another sip of sangria, “I don’t really know what I am anymore.”

Then he got up off the porch swing and headed back to his kitchen.

“Funny business,” he said, “this living.”

A knife is not a unitasker because "All it does is cut". A unitasker would be some kind of special knife that only cuts one thing and spends the rest of it's pointless existence stuffed into a drawer waiting for you to cook that one specific thing again. Like owning a sushi knife when you don't own a sushi restaurant.

Unitaskers are stupid because they're under used pointless objects that you don't need. A knife is not a unitasker, because you can use a knife for a ton of different purposes. Throughout history people have built fancy walls and they've never worked. Not to mention the fact that there are already countless border tunnels and surely will be more.

When you want to keep out vermin you can't just wall them out. You have to clean up what's attracting them in the first place. Think of it like this: if your kitchen is messy with leftover food and sources of water all over the place the ants, roaches, and rodents will keep coming back. You can stomp them, set traps, spray poison, and try to plug little holes all day long but you will never keep them out until you clean up the mess that attracts them in the first place.

There was a study I read about recently in which they surveyed people and tracked their purchasing habits. 80-something percent of the people stated that they thought it was important to "buy American" and support domestic jobs. Yet when it came to actually spending their money 90+ of them did the opposite and bought foreign shit from Wal-mart and the like.

I seriously doubt that all the things you own were made in the US with US labor. If I'm right then you are part of the problem.

Depends on how hot you set the oven.

It can be used for broiling, baking or simply keeping food warm. There's plenty of things you can prepare in an oven, from marinated meats, to vegetables to pies and cakes.

A unitasker is something that's only good for one thing and an oven does more than one thing. Therefore, it is not a unitasker.

Nobody claimed that illegals were the only dem voters.

Only that dems deliberately attract immigrants, as well as bus them to the polls, thereby suggesting that some dems are implicitly supporting illegal immigration. Thus we can conclude that "conservatives who want cheap labor" are not the sole source of illegal immigrant support.

You fuck with your constituents pocketbooks and you'll see the result. Ironically, the red state governors warned him about it. Even more ironically, the lower mid class that jumped on the orange bandwagon is the group suffering the most from the consequent food price inflation.

I like him. Good Eats was really what got me into cooking back in the day. I always liked the fact that he bothered to explain the mechanisms and reasons behind certain combinations and techniques, instead of just showing a recipe. That's why the show was so valuable. Every cooking show and book explains how to cook something, but very few explain why you cook it that way, or how it works.

Same here. And Good Eats also taught me how to teach. I teach Physics now (doing my PhD and they make us teach to earn our keep) and I use that same method: "here, I'll give you this formula, but I'm also going to explain where it comes from so you understand it better." The students seem to really appreciate it.
(They also appreciate when I bring in cookies for them at the end of the semester. Hey, baking is chemistry and physics at its core, after all...and it's good to show how these things can have an application in everyday life.)

" That's right goyim. Walls are indeed ineffective" " We must have open borders.....except for Israel"

>> No.10483909

>>10483896
Nobody said anything about open borders, only that walls are ineffective.
They barely work in Israel and that's a tiny tiny tiny fraction of the length of Trump's proposed wall. And Israel finds tunnels under their wall constantly. Their wall is just as stupid as every other wall in history.

>> No.10483934

>>10483909

Have you ever been to Israel? If it wasn't for their wall, the country would be warring all the time.

Finding tunnels while annoying is alot better than letting the enemy wander into the country.

>> No.10483981

>>10483934
They seemed to be doing fine before the wall.

And the wall hasn't stopped much, there are still bombings, rockets being fired over said wall, and so on. And never mind the fact that their wall is terribly small.

I'm not saying that border security isn't important. I'm just saying that if we look at history walls have never worked, especially on the sort of scale as is being discussed for the US southern border. The expense is pants-on-head retardedly high, especially for something that won't have an appreciable effect on anything except making us look like even bigger morons on the world stage.

High tech surveilence & increased border patrols would be substaintially more effective and far less costly.

And as I posted far above, fixing the problems that attract the vermin in the first place makes far better sense than trying in vain to keep them out. If you want to get bugs out out of your kitchen the most important thing you can do is clean up the mess that's attracting them in the first place. If you don't do that you can set traps and spray poison all day long but it won't solve the problem.

>> No.10484011

>>10483981

I do agree with high tech surveillance as a tool.

But remember too why a wall was wanted and need at one time even by democrats. Its other mean was to stop drugs from funneling in. Plus weapons.

This coming from the border patrol as well who knows the situation down there alot better than us, unless you have been at the border.

I'm not taking political sides, I'm just pointing out that a wall is a dumb idea. People "want" all kinds of things, yet that doesn't mean that those things are a sane idea. Sadly, most people are dreadfully unaware of history or unintended consequences.
