Usually have a pastie in the station before leaving. If it's a long ride maybe buy something from the trolley or the food car.

Germany, I usually do 4 2 hour travels per week. I don't really eat much on the train. When I arrive during the evening I have some fast food and during the day I get a sandwich from the bakery before taking off. It's always the same stuff so I thought about making and bringing stuff myself and hoped people would have cool ideas.

Boy, I really like these trains. They have comfartable seats and shit ton of space and you don't need to pay anything extra to use them. Also, the head rests perfectly in these seats

Anyway, Sandwiches are a calssic for travel, just toss some stuff inbetween two slices of bread and make sure it doesn't fall apart while biting.

Schnitzel + mashed potatoes are fine if you use a sealable box, carry around a glass of Pusta Salad to have a full meal which can be eaten on a train and doesn't need salad, but always consider space when doing this. Fried rice with chicken breasts is also fine. For low-space options, consider dried sausages or trail mixes. If you want something cooked, fill fried rice or pasta dishes in sealable cups, perhaps mashed potatoes and small Frikadellen or stripes of schnitzel/meats. Also, stuffed mushrooms. For non-meat options, fried tofu is great when you don't try to pretend it's meat, so are simple fried or non-fried stripes of bell peppers.Stay away from tomatoes unless you carry cherry tomatoes with you.

On long train rides / trips?
Hamburger or sandwhich. Burgers are compact, cheap too.
Sandwhich is better option but the cumbs are annoying sometimes.
I always have a burger in my daytrip out in case I need to skip lunch. Best trick when having a trip overseas.
If you don't, a bar of chocolate will do the trick as well.

Even bringing your own food. Our trains are filthy. Even for moderately short inter-state travel you're better off taking a plane and will probably pay roughly the same price.

yep, basically. i took 19 hour train ride from south carolina to massachusetts one time that cost me over 300 bucks. i could've just driven and spent 100 bucks in gas or flown for the same price and gotten there in a quarter of the time.

fuck trains desu unless you live in a city.

I'm looking for a bento box, it cant be pinku (that's Japanese for pink) or any girl color. It has to be of 2 or more kotoba (that's Japanese for 2 compartments) and has be be chibi (small) sized. And has to be really kawaii (cute). Also It has to be about 10-20 bux. And you have to post pics of it first (i want to make shure it's kawaii [cute]). And it would be nice if it came with matching chopstick holder (WITH chopsticks). OH! and it CANNOT have any cartoon pictures, or be made out of plastic. It has to be made of ceramic, or something like that. Also it would be nice if it was made in japan. and not in china or corea (Korea) or whatever. I have found a bento box similar to the one im describing in e-bay, but it was 1 kotoba, and i don't want my gohan (rice) to touch my other things (it can get wet and i would not like that, plus 2 compartments looks more kawaii)

>What do you snack or eat for lunch on train rides?
If I ride a train on vacation, like say in Austria, I'll go to a grocery or bakery before it leaves. I'll get some light beer/lemonade like Shofferhofer, water bottle, some kind of soda that doesn't exist in my country like Melissa. I might find some interesting snack or pastry, or bag of salami. It'll depend on my mood or time of day. Trains are pristine, so even drinking seems forbidden, but it's not.

If I'm in Manhattan, and at Grand Central, the food court before the trains is massive and nice. I might get a ice cream bowl at Jacque Torres like macaron ice cream. I might wolf down a sandwichand then take a couple beers on the train.

Though you may not feel like eating, the more I've traveled, the more I've learned it's a bad idea to be empty handed. Being on a plane that could sit on the tarmac or in the air with turbulence that seats the flight crew the whole time, for hours, or making an emergency stop at a closed airport at 9PM and sitting on the plane rather than being allowed in the terminal. You need to have nuts, granola, and a water bottle in your bag. Trust me. Trains break down too and even more inconvenient locations.

Some of the food is ok but there are too many bums hanging around and accosting people for food. The best strategy is just to bring the food onto the train.

I took a 4 day straight train ride across Canada and went back again but broke up this one into 1 day 1 day 2 days. I brought almost all my own food. Oatmeal everyday for breakfast with coffee. I brought a lot of baked goods. And I had Bread with peanut butter and honey. Granola bars, fruits, vegetables, crackers, chips. I'm trying to remember what else but can't think of anything.

I refuse to pay those prices for alcohol so I bring my own. If I'm in St. Pancras I always get one of those cheese ham and mushroom crepes. Otherwise for me it's a decent cheese and onion sandwich with a good packet of salt and vinegar crisps.

I just get something like a sandwich and crisps from a shop near the station if I'm getting the train from home. If I'm feeling extra cheeky I'll get a bacon sarnie and eat it on the platform.

If I'm getting the train from my uni town I'll go to Pound Bakery down the road from the station and get some sausage rolls, but I end up eating them by the time I get to the station.

I don't think I've ever eaten on a train and I'm pretty sure food is prohibited on the commuter rail near my house but if I absolutely *had* to snack on something at gunpoint I would probably go with a granola bar or two and maybe some water or juice or milk if there's some way to keep it chilled. I don't like to eat smelly or greasy foods in places where I can't wash my hands and face immediately after.
