Mine was impacted and a little infected. Got just a couple of shots of local anesthetic, no sedatives. The anesthetic didn't work, despite even trying to inject it directly into the tooth after drilling through the crown.
If anyone is curious, the pulling of the root is definitely more painful than the drilling in the crown.

I'm scared shitless. When I was young I regularly had cavities filled because my parents didn't care enough to make me brush my teeth. It wasn't rare for me to get 2-3 teeth fixed at the same time. Once, the dentist started to drill and I felt the whole thing on my nerve and gums; even after another shot of the local anesthesic, I still felt the drill. He put the needle of anesthesic 7 times in my gums before putting a big dose of it under my tongue. Scary stuff, especially for a 12yo. Braces (and the pallet enlarger thing beforehand) were a bitch too, but you get used to it after a while. Now my 4 wisdom teeth are partially out and completely sideways, but I have no insurance and I don't want to get them removed unless I get general anesthesia and a good post-surgery drug to knock me out.

I had my bottom right tooth removed in July since it was impacted pretty badly and causing me terrible pain. I wanted to have the left one pulled out too just in case. The oral surgeon ended up only doing the right one because it was more difficult to pull out than they though. The roots were hooked or curved which made it difficult to pull out. The idiot I am decided to go with laughing gas instead of being knocked out, so I was awake for the whole procedure. The oral surgeons were cool though, They refunded my money for the second tooth, and said they wouldn't charge for the nerve gas again if I decided to come back to have the left one extracted. Luckily, the left one hasn't caused much pain, but my fear is if it does cause pain in the future, and needs to be extracted, that there'd a risk of damaging the nerve in my jaw.

See, the reason why dentists recommend getting them removed at a young age, is to extract them before the roots grow down into your jawbone or get entangled into the nerves in your jaw. Because if the teeth hurt when you're older, extracting them with the roots are fully developed is more of a risk to damaging the jaw nerves. Sure, they may grow into normal healthy straightened teeth. But if they grow in the wrong way or get impacted to the point it causes severe pain, it makes it harder to extract.

It's a gamble to have them extracted at an early age. Extracting them could cause problems down the line, but not extracting them could be worse.

Basically, waiting until the teeth cause you severe pain in the worse thing you can do.

But no, the doctors will only give you opiates if you are an addict now. they aren't approved for pain relief anymore and either way you need to pay your pain licence fee before you can even feel pain, and that's assuming your parents have paid the birth toll (retrospective back to 1965) which would even allow you to exist, but you must make sure you've filled out the right forms at the Post Office, including the J43, S7, V89 and the all important R1. These forms, if correctly filled out and returned, will allow you to have teeth, and use them in accordance with the regulations specified in the Misuse of Teeth Act of 2015.
Failure to comply with these regulations is now a criminial offense and punishable by a fine, or imprisonment.
