I actually ordered an accessory pack from a C-ration pack.
The Lucky Strikes were actually fucking far better than even Steve lets on. Smart guy, doesn't want the price of these things to skyrocket. Absolutely delicious compared to modern garbage.

I find value in both. The older rations give you an perspective for the preservation and design philosophy of the eras in which they were produced as well as of the soldiers who ate them on the regular. Seeing the use of comparatively heavy tin packages is interesting, especially for the lifespan some of them have survived to the present day.

Going into modern day rations with their Esbit stoves and flameless ration heater in the retort pouches gives you a real appreciation for the advancement of technology. When I first started watching I was shocked that they included cigarettes in old rations, while now there are fiber & protein-fortified energy drink mixes included instead.

Tbf all we specialise in is stews, dumplings, calorie dense, stodgy type food due to our climate.
If I was in the Army still and got an American MRE for example, I'd be pretty pissed. All our exercises involved us getting piss soaked through, sleeping in muddy ditches.
At the end of the day all you want is a hot stew or curry. Shitty tacos or cheeseburger + m&ms wouldn't cut it.
