I'm in New Orleans for the day. Are there any good places to eat here or is cajun food just a meme?

You are a casual. The sampler plate at Coop's is all you deserve.

I ate at Coop’s and really liked it.
Go to Manchu and get some chicken and culture.

I have a feeling I'm in for some cultural enrichment today.

Also: Cafe du Monde. Worth it or just another tourist trap?

Coop's is a very good place for a tourist to scratch the surface. If you want to get deeper the options go in a lot of different directions. You have gas station tier fried chicken at Hank's. Small plates with wine at Bacchanal. Upscale sandwiches at Cochon Butcher. Lowbrow po' boys at Gene's, unless you want fried cat or shrimp, then you go next door to Ilys (same owner, but that's where the deep fryer is). There's always Melba's, which is good for when you want to eat crawfish and cajun meets soul food in a restaurant attached to a laundromat. I'm also partial to the muffuletta at Frady's One Stop, though you can't argue with the original at Central Grocery.

Both. Only get the coffee and beignets. Appreciate the senior citizen servers. None of it is all that great, but it's worth doing at least once in your life.

Bacchanal looks fantastic. Makes me really wish there wasn't a lame smoking ban in the city as the atmosphere looks perfect for it.

What's your opinion on the Napoleon House? The interior alone makes it look worth visiting but I'd rather go to a better place if the food isn't up to par. I'd like to visit a place in the French Quarter so I don't have to take too many taxi rides.

The walk to Bywater might be worth it. Down Royal to Frenchman, then into Bywater. You could grab your muffuletta at Frady's or Central. Plenty of bars and live music places along the way to stop at. And for god's sake when you're back at your hotel keep your radio tuned in to WWOZ so you really feel like you're plugged into the city!
