What can you tell me about it? I saw someone mention it on /ck/ a few days ago and I'm intrigued. I can't say I ever remember having ever eaten it in my life. Is it bland pleb food that lazy amerilard boomers make? Or is it one of those dishes that can taste delicious if you cook it correctly and with the right spices? What are some good recipes?

it's meatloaf that's meatier (less filler ingredients).

but i actually like lots of filler.

It is what you make it. It's literally a seasoned hamburger patty with mushroom gravy. That can be as awesome as you want it to be our as shitty and midwestern as it can be. I've seen it done with a red wine mushroom gravy and venison mince, and that was pretty great. But it's also been a staple of the frozen TV dinner slop trays since the beginning of the pre-made meal. I suppose you can liken it to pizza or burritos. It can be the great or shit.

The recipe for salisbury steak is approximately the same as for making meatloaf or meatballs.

Hamburger, eggs, bread crumbs, maybe diced onion or pepper if you wish

me too. though the idea of making a good sauce to cook it in sounds like it can make it taste very good

what's stopping you from buying it?

The frozen stuff taste like what I imagine warm dog food would.
The fresh made is still meh to me.
Not a fan.

Make meatloaf patties, give them a good sear on both sides and then simmer them in gravy with mushrooms for an hour or two and wa la

It's essentially fried burger patties with gravy and mushrooms. If you want actually good salisbury steak, you'd listen to the other guys here saying the patty is more like meatloaf. It's breddy good.

It was created by a guy during the civil war who was trying to figure out how much meat a soldier needed to stay healthy. All they used to eat was hardtack, a huge rock hard cracker. A Salisbury steak here and there kept them strong. It's shit food.

Once I tried making salisbury steak but I'm not very good at cooking, so I used the wrong kind of sauce or something. The resulting dish was so heinous, it nearly put me off ground beef for life. If you gave me a 5 star salisbury steak today I'd probably blow chunks.
