I'm triggered by the lack of flavour.
Avocado is green slime. Needs a whole lot of Tabasco or something

I never got this whole spiel - on the one hand you had people going "Millennials are stupid, they spend too much money on avocado toast!" and other millennials going "Nuh-uh, I can't afford that shit!", and ME over here going "....but avocados only cost 49 cents each here."

Am I the only one who doesn't get where the "avocados are expensive" meme came from? Is it just cuz you can't buy them in wholesale bags?

It's not that avocados are expensive.
It's that "avocado toast" is associated with artisanal hipster ass coffee shops. No one makes them at home.

You can get them in bags. The grocery I worked in had a couple varieties of avocados, as well as 4-pack bags. Depending on season, they could get around $1 each, I don't live near avocado country, but still not that expensive. I suspect they have that rep because avocados ripen and go bad like bananas. Once they're ripe, you have 24-36 hours to eat them in prime condition, so if you're trying to have them every day, you're probably going to the grocery at least three days per week.

you can put them in the fridge at peak ripeness and they'll stay that way for a while

What? Avocado on toast is delicious. How did this get to be a thing?
