Feel free. I follow it because I too see no reason to follow any other ethical rules, and the only reason I follow ANY rules at all is for my own self-benefit. It's simply been my experience that this is the single rule wherein karmic retribution is unavoidable--either from the self or from someone else. As I said, one only follows it out of fear of reciprocity, which nobody has any reason to fear when dealing with lower species.

I'm not worried about getting hit by the cross traffic at an intersection because yeah, I can see it because I'm not blind or playing angry birds like the average motorist.

What I worry about is cars hitting me from behind in the chaotic moments before/after a light change, and yeah, that would be their fault. That's also the reason we generally proceed through a red light when possible, to avoid being in the intersection during any transitions.
