Remember that every city has local joints with better burgers, so don't compare fast food chains to that. Five Guys fries can either be god tier or shit tier. It's a weird thing I've found about that chain. I don't live near one but was out of town during the weekend and had a weird craving for it so I got some. Bacon cheese dog was superb but the fries were 6/10, sloppy but overcooked at the same time which is a really weird combo.

Chipotle was successful from inception on, even the hickest of hick towns got one by 2009 (trust me, I lived in one).

2014 was Chipotles big year, paired with crazy expansion, marketing, and an overall love for their food from people.
Literal memes were being made about their food.
I remember very well because 2014 was my senior year of hs/fresh year of college. My friends and I would eat there 3 times a week easily.
2015 hits and they give everyone ecoli. I didn't get sick but I knew their sourcing had gotten really out of hand with that kind of expansion and demand; I don't buy into the whole "healthy ingredients" shit. It's all marketing. There isn't that much vegan, free range, gluten free, non gmo *insert meme word here* food to be sourced in the entire world.
