The dish is well-renown because it is quite scrumptious. The fags who wish they were japs are the first one to complain about 'authenticity' at their local flyover sushi joint but you probably wouldn't know any.

It's almost always people who want to feel classy but not pay the full price for class. Sushi manages to have like slightly more effort and attention being put into it being made so people love it. There is also an assumption it is more healthy.

I am a degenerate and love the cheap sushi place by my house--one of those conveyor plate restaurants. I always place a carry out order. Nothing too fancy just the Shrimp, Salmon Nigiri and a dragon roll or 2. Doesn't really matter because I drown it in overly spiced soy/wasabi sauce that clears my sinuses with every bite. Also drink milk with it.

Sorry I don't worship jap culture I don't know all the intricacies of this shit. I guess it will just forever be a mystery as to why this one food is revered. It would be like if people were in awe of someone making spaghetti and meatballs.
