Thoughts on the Breville BES870XL?

>> No.10153060

I don't even have to look at the specs to know it's garbage.

Why are espresso machines so expensive?

Turkish/Greek coffee pot $5 approx
Vietnamese Phin $5 approx
French press $15-$30 (depending on size)
Aeropress $30 approx
Hario ceramic V60 $35 approx
Espresso machine $200 - $2000

Name a better cup of coffee brewed with naturally processed Ethiopian coffee beans.

>why is a machine that raises water to a consistent pressure and temperature expensive
idk dude

You'd think a widely available machine that's been around since the 1800's would have gotten cheaper to be <$100. No the portable "minipresso" doesn't count since it can't get the 9 bars of pressure.

>>10153064
Because it requires both a precision heater and a pump that can deliver a precise amount of pressure through the puck. At the end of the day the a cheap Gaggia that delivers those specs isn't all that expensive at around $400-$500, if espresso is your thing. If that seems too expensive for you then espresso probably shouldn't be your thing.

Is it possible to brew a good cup of coffee using a glass vase + filter paper, like a bootleg chemex?

proper heat, high pressure on a well packed portafilter makes superior coffee.

Desu I have this espresso machine. It puts out a lovely cup once you dial everything in right.

Hmm. I'm crypto rich now and they sell in on overstock. Thinking of getting it.

ran out of coffee beans, which brand/bag should I buy next my dudes?

>> No.10155780

>>10154527
That is the general idea except with a carafe built in after all. I think the only thing special is the channel that's supposed to provide a place for gas to escape during brewing/also a nice spout.
Chemex have fancy thicker filters apparently too, that I didn't realize when I bought one. I just got a mesh cone instead, since I don't mind some silt and oils

a proper entry level machine that meets your needs with a proper grinder
>>10153064
low demand, specialty item, no incentive for large production, no economies of scale
