keep your stove on 3-5 and keep stirring! if they get too solid too fast, just take them off the heat and stir until they feel like they're not cooking at all anymore, then put them back on. it took me a while to learn too but you'll get the hang of it!

oh yeah and make sure you're scraping the pot/pan so that nothing stays stuck to the bottom or sides too long, that's where most of the heat is and that's how things get burned.
