I know what a buffet is, but what is "going to a buffet"? There are restaurants in America that are only buffets? Usually what I see here is a breakfast or brunch buffet in a hotel or something.

I don't know, but I do it because /foreveralone/. I go back to a lot of the same places so they just know me. I tip reasonably well like a good Burger and I'm pretty warm/friendly, and simple to deal with, so the staff is usually pretty happy to see me.

I'm sure they do think I'm a little weird considering I come in every week alone, and ask to sit away from people if possible (I try to avoid busy times anyways). Some places I know the table number I want to sit at because the waitresses will say "just say to sit at table 11!" when they see I'm always wanting to be in the same place.

I don't really care anymore about being embarrassed, but I'll admit I get sad sometimes.

No, it's the real patrician way to enjoy a restaurant. Like going to the movie theater alone.
It's a different experience than going with somebody, and both are enjoyable.

Ironically, thinking you can't enjoy something alone because "it's weird", is a sign of possible social anxiety, so that's more autistic than the opposite.

However, if you do, I advise you to bring something to keep you busy while waiting for your order to come. Most places will take your order as a sole customer with priority, but you're still gonna wait. Something you want to read is best.

Idk what story youre talking about but a friend of my dad's once opened up an all day buffet (7am-9pm) and he said two Samoan dudes would show up and would eat L i t e r a l l y everything. They wouldnt leave for the entire day. He said they would pay once in the morning, at lunch, and at dinner but it wasn't nearly enough to cover evrything they ate. He would refill the entire soda machine twice a day and would refill the food stations at least 6 times a day. It would've been small claims court at best, he wouldn't have needed a lawyer. And there was no way they could have afforded a lawyer with what they were doing anyway. Moreover he could have just stopped admitting them after the first time and accepting their money as well and informed other staff they weren't allowed on premises. If he wasn't willing or able to take a stand against them then there's no way he could have made a decent owner/manager.

In Burderland lawyers will take that stuff on contingency, so they take a percent of the earnings. I know, but I'm not honestly sure they would have had a case there. Restaurants aren't a free for all, the owner has the right to refuse service and throw people out for any reason he sees fit so long as it isn't discriminatory.

Hell, he could have demanded they leave after they finished serving breakfast and thrown them out there and refused money. There's not even a chance of a legal issue at that point for him, and, had they refused to leave, he could have called the police.

>> No.9952887

>>9952767
Well it takes most restaurants a few months or up to a year to start making a profit. But the whole point is that you WANT people to keep coming back and keep eating. The problem with that place was that since the two guys would always eat evrything, other patrons weren't able to eat as much as they would like so they just never came back. This is spmething that i have seen happen at other places too, although it's almost always the owners or managers that would regulate the amount of food being prepared and served, resulting in a temporary shortage which, if you only have a short amount of time to eat, would make people pretty angry and they would simply go somewhere else.

I've also spoken to a mexican restaurant owner who would also have a small buffet. After a few months he changed it so buffet was only available during lunch then later got rid of it altogether. He said the amount of food being wasted, along with the the cost of having the heating lamps turned on all the time made it difficult to keep the buffet open. I guess every place is different and the only way to learn is trial and error.

Like you have no clue it’s unusual to sit and dine alone you can’t be bothered with trivial matters like this either because actual autism or you’re too busy to care. 3 and this is the bad one, sitting alone looking like a sad lonely sap. Yes people will look and talk and judge and pity if you sit there looking like a sad fag without a friend in the world. Don’t be this guy. It’s all attitude

I'm thinking really hard for more examples and I just can't. My family took me to the casino for my birthday. I would have had much more fun if they weren't there and I got to explore at my own pace. Every time I take someone to the shooting range, I'm just pissed that an hour of fun suddenly has an hour of waiting and all the effort of worrying about another person attached too. Even just watching something with someone becomes a whole lot less fun when you're worrying about if they're enjoying it.

In order to file a lawsuit the plaintiff must be able to demonstrate loss, as a direct cause of the defendant, with the statement to have acceptable reparations if they win the case.

You're telling me that Jupiter and Neptune would honestly take them to court over a loss of $15? Only implying that there are no other buffets of similar quality in a reasonable distance that could be substitutes? Even then the owner retains the freedom to not provide service. Cutting them off mid gestation would be legally incorrect, so far as contractual agreement between buyer and receiver of goods. But upon the next meal hours, or following day, the owner could refuse to provide service- or create Claus to service ie, 2 hour limit.

The Golden Corral was, originally, a steak restaurant. The term “Golden Corral” would be a reference to a place where the best beef would be used (albeit, in a weird 1960’s-1970’s kind of way).
That was a nice job combining a current cultural status with a 50-year old corporate naming convention. Especially since the concept blends so well. In the end it is just a coincidence that is moderately ironic also.

But I met a guy recently also eating alone. We're both white guys in a Asian country, so being able to speak English easily was nice.

At some point he wanted to show me a location he had mentioned, so he took his iPad off the table (which I hadn't even noticed), apologized for having it there, and showed me the thing. He then explained he usually uses it while he eats.

And I get that. I look at my phone if I'm alone at a restaurant. But why did he feel the need to tell me? It just sounded like such a fucking bummer.

Check your phone or something, whatever you normally do while waiting, or just sit and take in the atmosphere. Again no one cares.
And yes, of course. It's a total myth that there is a class barrier to fine dining (with a few exceptions though nothing worth your time). As long as you appearance isn't so offensive that it would conceivably damage the experience of other customers, you will be served like anyone else. I've eaten 2 stars in jeans and a pullover. And remember that stars aren't just about the food: they also indicate fantastic service. If you have any questions at all about the food, how to best enjoy it, the restaurant in general, etc, just ask your waiter.

I usually avoid anywhere formal or very busy.
Bring a newspaper/book or read your phone.
Order a drink before your meal and sit back and relax while you wait.
Your meal will almost always come out faster eating alone.

Good waiters will sometimes offer local newspapers or offer a small wine tasting of a select couple of wines if you talk to them about their winelist.

Listening in on the first date going on at the table next to you can be great entertainment as well.

Here in Japan it's completely normal.
Rather, the majority of customers are eating alone most of the time, which is why there is more counter seats than there is booths in every joint that's not specifically made for groups (like family restaurants)

Conversely, it's a bother to eat in other countries because the place is always obviously built for groups of 4+ people, as if needing a meal that wasn't fast food always needed to be some huge occasion you should bring 3 friends along for.

It's also completely normal to go out to drink alone, whereas in the west it's seen as pathetic or something only depressed people do.

Besides, I'm speaking in general.
Every time I want to go out to eat, it's always much more convenient and natural to do it here than it is in the EU or US
