what are some primitive, but efficient ways od preserving meat?

let's say i get stranded on an island for a couple of years. what would be some good ways of preserving meat after i kill a boar?

>> No.9921986

Smoking and drying. You probably wouldn't want to just dry without smoking in a hotter, humid climate. Doing that would make it taste worse I think.

You might be able to cure it with sea water like a brine, but that wouldn't be a good idea unless you had plenty of fresh water to drink because the salt will make you thirsty.

Some people bury meat and let it ferment for a few months. You might just end up with rotten and inedible meat though.

I would recommend vacuum pack it and freeze. Then you can just sous vide it

Cut it in small chunks and preserve it in lye. Lye can be made from wood ashes that you would could collect after making fires.

This. The simplest solution is often the best.

pork confit
Fat is a good preservation media.

where the fuck would all of you find salt, sous vide vacuum packs and freezers on a stranded island? when did /ck/ become so fucking retarded?

Pretty sure the ocean is filled with salt. Put some on a large flat rock and let it dehydrate. Scrape and repeat. The other was obviously a joke. I'm sorry you're retarded desu
