My go-to. I'm considering to splurge on some Appleton Estate, is it worth it or should I save up for an agricole instead?

When you buy rum, you should buy quality

You're right. As a studentfag I'm on a budget, though. I've heard a lot of good things about Rhum Agricole, and am thinking about picking up some of pic related, specifically. So my choice is between Agricole and okay Jamaican or just good Jamaican.
I'll be using most of it for cocktails, so it doesn't absolutely need to be sipping quality.

How I like to think of it is that you drink vodka to get wasted, and rum to enjoy getting wasted. So if you are on a budget it may be more enjoyable to buy a cheap vodka until you have saved enough to buy a better rum (of course dont do this if you have to live with vodka for way to long before you can afford good rum :) )

Anyone tried Lady Bligh? It's about $5 cheaper than Admiral Nelson's and has a higher alcohol content. Thing is, I think they're lying about it. I drank a half a handle in one evening and wasn't as wasted as I would've been off any other bottom shelf rum.

Point taken. The budgetting could be a lot worse, and Christmas is coming, after all.

Ron Zacapa or Zaya are excellent dark rums, but Diplomatico is my favorite.

Rhum agricole is quite a different flavour to molasses rum, it's got quite pronounced grassy/herby and less toffee/caramel flavours. It's good stuff, but I'd definitely try some before splashing out on a bottle.

The shop I usually go to doesn't have it anymore though.
