It's my first Thanksgiving after moving out of my parents' house, and they never really celebrated it that much. What the fuck am I supposed to make? How do I make it? I don't need anything especially fancy, its just for me and my 2 roommates.

Dude, cook whatever you want to. There's nothing magic about Thanksgiving nor any other celebration. Invent your own thing. That's what the first Thanksgiving was. They cooked what they had.

Have fun with it.

>turkey
>stuffing
>mashed potatoes
>cranberry sauce
>insert vegetable
prepare them however you like. those are the main staples. at least where im from. mix that with some company, and a few stiff drinks of your choice. then get in a group argument with your sjw sister, and crazy aunt on ones side, and anyone drunk enough to banter, about whether or not it matters that grandma said something racist even though shes like 96 or something. next, you need to explain to your aunt that grandma actually shouldn't be eating borax just because of something she read on the internet. your mom will then comment on how her turkey didnt come out right. and she gets sad and blames herself for the toxic atmosphere of the room. and then she starts "cleaning up" but shes really just mostly crying because family is gay and thanksgiving sucks.

but since you're gonna be hanging out with your roommates it should be pretty cool

No insults, but it is celebrating people helping survive starvation. Wilder plants and animals are more appropriate; but any roast game or something that would grow on the coast would make sense.

Fuck, you might bring smoked salmon.

That's my whole point.

I think roasting a whole turkey would be absurd, just get a turkey breast and roll it with stuffing.

Have fun anon

You could do it pot-luck style where everyone makes a dish or two to contribute to the feast. This way you get to have fun cooking with one another and then enjoying the fruits of your labor. Roast turkey and/or cured ham are traditional but really any meat will be fine. The holiday is based around people being thankful to be alive like >>9728703 and >>9728804 said, but nowadays people use it as a time to remember all the good things in their lives and really appreciate them for the value they have. Or at least they try to. Since you’re celebrating with your roommates, this presents a good opportunity to appreciate one another’s friendship. In short, cook something all of you enjoy eating and take the time to enjoy one another’s company in earnest. Always remember that it is ultimately the company that makes a meal truly great. Even a stale, moldy loaf of bread is feast fit for a king when shared by true friends.
