So I kinda backed myself into a corner telling someone I bake the best cookies despite never actually making cookies and now they're coming over to try my cookies.

I've looked at a few recipes online and I'm following all the directions but they just won't end up like Mrs Fields cookies.

Pls help, I need some tips. I'm a girl btw

>> No.9706013

If you're following the recipes EXACTLY then you shouldn't be having any problems...

It's what recipes are for!

just buy some cookie dough from the store
then either frost those cookies or put sprinkles on them or something
>I'm a girl
then they're not going to call you out, and even if they did just act stupid like you don't know what they're talking about

Well you should be 100% sure.

Is your oven shitty? How evenly can it cook things? Is it reaching the correct tempurature?

Just use the recipe on the back of the nestle toll house chocolate morsels bag. I did that for a convention thing in the fourth grade and got first place in desserts out of like 30 people.

But baking demands you follow directions perfectly, my dude.

Use a thin layer of Crisco or any non-stick spray, it's important you cook at a lower temp or else the top burns.

I don’t know, I think this anon may be trolling. Just use parchment paper on a regular baking tray, it works 1000% better than greasing one.

if the oven is old it may be dispersing heat a bit faster and therefore setting at a lower temperature, unless it has an internal thermometer to adjust the heat, so try setting it a bit higher (not too much)

>> No.9706097

>>9706077
You shouldn't really have to grease a pan for cookies. They usually have enough butter in them already where they barely stick and can be easily loosened if they even stick at all.

>> No.9706099

>>9706039
>probably didn't let the dough chill overnight
You don't have to let it chill overnight but the cookies will come out so much better if the dough is cold. I usually scoop them onto a baking sheet then put that in the freezer while the oven preheats. Just 10 minutes in the freezer is long enough to solidify them a bit and stop them from spreading out so much.

Backed yourself into a corner? Nah you ran into a cage in the corner, locked yourself in, and threw away the key. The only thing you can do now is get hammered before that person comes over so you can blame it on the alcohol.

Follow the directions exactly baking is a science and as for ingredients weight them out it's more accurate that way. Second chilling the dough before you bake them and use a scoop or something to keep the size consistent, give them plenty if room on the tray to spread out. If all else fails just wear a very low cut shirt and stay playful while the guy tells you they are trash you can still get the dick I believe in you.

Lots of misinformation ITT. The reason your cookies are coming out thin and crispy is because the fat is melting. How do we counteract this and get those chewy, thick cookies we want? Simple. After you mix the dough, put it, mixing bowl and all, into the fridge for several hours. Better yet, scoop and form the cookies and freeze them. Baking from chilled/frozen causes the fat to melt slowly and not leak out by the time the cookies are finished baking.

Notice how there are no posts in this thread about the recipe, just about the technique? That's how you know that it's fine to use a log of cookie dough from the refrigerated section of the store. If you're worried they might recognize the flavor, buy a excessively premium brand few people will have tasted. This also solves the chilling step because it'll be cold to start with.

Then, add some schmancy stuff that whoever you're trying to impress will be impressed with be it candy like mini Reese's pieces (that I like) or some kind of nut or dried fruit. Don't mix them in, just press your dough ball into the bag on one side and put that side up in the oven. Do a variety of "toppings" in this way it'll make it seem impressive and especially if you don't know for sure what he likes

Finally get your oven off the side of that hill
