Then there are those who will buy it fresh and drag this 10lb weight home and smash it open with some kind of ax or machete. All that effort to get at the tiny edible pods inside. Then you have to dispose of the shell, which will fill up a kitchen trash can by itself. I did this once and gave up. Same with fresh pineapple. I'm man enough to eat it, but not man enough to get my hands dirty.

Literally why. You might ruin some of the flesh inside. You're supposed to slice the butt of the fruit (not the stalk), squeeze your fat fingers in the slit and pry open.

Wrap the shells with newspapers so the thorns dont stab you and throw everything into 3-4 layers of those bigass black trash bags to contain the smell (waste collectors might refuse to take cuz it smells funny).
