I liked the British run of KN much better. More focus of the food and real business issues and less on screaming and goofy owners. My favorite was the Irish pub with the owner's son cooking coca cola basted ribs. On the one hand, it's TV, it's made to be sensational, but if you look at UK Kitchen Nightmares or even Canadian stuff like Canada's Worst Driver, it's never this insane. I honestly unironically no jokes like that in the neighborhood I grew up in, there's a very obvious and well-known mafia bar, and it's just a good bar. And if you delve deeper into the LORE you find that it was actually started by the members of the family who wanted to do something legitimate for a change, and the bar now does better than the original crime family.

The family is still full of psychopaths who'd kill you for a dollar, but at least now it's career boxers and bar owners and other "Gone Straight" types instead of literal mafiosos.

The place itself is also really safe; everyone is very friendly and they have very low tolerance for violence or other shit-starting.
