Dear /ck/,

I am a very mediocre cook trying to improve my selection of bachelor chow. What's some good stuff I can do with canned tuna? Particularly anything that doesn't involve mayo, which is gross.

Right now what I usually do is a redneck concoction of tuna, yellow mustard, dill relish, salt, and pepper on a hawaiian bun. It's actually not bad but it's lacking punch.

Also, is there a better brand of tuna to buy, and does it matter that much what it's packed in? Or is it mostly the same stuff?

Mix it with cottage cheese and pickle relish then make tuna sandwiches with toasted bread

Mix it into some mac n' cheese with peas

I lol'd.

I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all these different brands of canned tuna are made by the same manufacturer and slapped with various retail labels.

what this anon said. you can substitute cottage cheese for mayo and it still turns out into a pretty good tuna salad

Get it packaged in oil instead of water, it greatly improves the flavor. Adding finely chopped celery helps a bunch with not only flavor but texture. Try adding some hot sauce to the mix.

I throw it into a spinach salad with balsamic vinaigrette, capers and red peppers.

that chart was put together by greenpeace and ranks brands by how many sharks they accidentally kill while catching tuna

it has nothing to do with quality or taste
