Yeah, but how would you find yourself in a situation where butter went unused for that long?
Use your head.

>> No.9427719

Yeah, if you leave it out. In the fridge it's probably good for 20 years but will start picking up fridge flavors.

Freeze your butter for infinite shelf life.

does op google search?

in the fridge, unopened butter is supposed to last about a month, if opened it will last for about 2 weeks.

I have used opened butter that's been in my fridge for quite some time and it didn't absorb fridge flavours yet and does not taste stale, and I haven't gotten sick.

a good way to get rid of butter flies is to take a bit of the infected butter and mix about a tablespoon of bone hurting juice with it then leave it on the floor overnight and wait for the butter flies to attack it and the bone hurting juice kills them shortly after

can you get organic bone hurting juice?

>> No.9435736

>>9427719
>In the fridge it's probably good for 20 years
No. It slowly oxidizes (in cooking terms, "becomes rancid"). This is why the outer layer turns a darker yellow and sort of becomes clearer. Unless you are a Himalayan yak herder making butter tea, you should cut off and throw out that rancid outer layer, but knowing the average skill level and economic circumstances of /ck/ you probably don't.
