Why do the Jews not want us to eat these? I had the idea that they were bad but I just tried them on some toast and they were tasty. Cheap, pretty good macros, low mercury. What else do you guys do with these?

Love these things, if you get the one in tomato sauce, you can cook up some spaghetti and warm those up and toss it for a super cheap meal. Fishermen's eggs are GOAT breakfast if you have some kippers around. Cook up some onions, mix with the kippers along with some parsley and lemon juice and put it in a coffee mug topped with an egg. Bake it in the oven till your eggs how you like it and then dump it and serve with toast. I actually like doing this with cilantro and lime and I'll put some fresh pico on top after it's out.

Know a lot of Jews and Muslims (including a lot who claim to be atheists but keep kosher/halal for reasons totally and completely beyond me), and when we go out to eat I always get the most delicious most non-kosher thing possible. In particular shrimp/crab/lobster, and bacon-wrapped anything, are great ways to test their faith.

Very very few in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Coastal China, and Vietnam. Would be extremely difficult to eat kosher/halal when basically everything contains pork and shellfish (if only as flavouring).

I used to hang out with some Muslims in Korea and in Japan (not very good Muslims in both cases since they were binge drinking and slut-slaying buddies). It was always a huge pain in the ass to find anything anywhere that they could eat: pretty much just BBQ beef.

I've recently been working my way around the canned fish aisle and I don't know who actually eats all this stuff considering the price of much of it. I Can buy a pound of chicken for the same price as one can of kippers.

smoked oysters were just little bland flesh globs, herring in tomato sauce was pretty good but too expensive for the small portion. I ate anchovies straight out of the tin but apparently you aren't supposed to do that as they were uncomfortably salty

They come boneless but it's sorta silly, the bones disintegrate in your mouth and leave only a slightly weird and flavorless texture. The ribs aren't even noticeable, the only part you can find is the spine which is quite easy to remove with a fork.

The texture is like cooked fish. Sardines, salmon, and herring are pretty soft, mackerel has a sort of firm meaty texture.

Sardines in oil or water are hardly salty at all. If they're in a mustard or hot sauce, then obviously that's gonna be a little saltier. Smoked fish like kipper are often noticeably salty, but not even close to anchovy salt bombs.
