Hey /Ck/ I live in Florida and something we do is when I invite my friends over to eat, I ask them to bring their own plates. Is this something that only we do here ?

I'm pretty sure that's not even a Florida thing, you're just fucking weird.

sounds like some weird midwest thing, like hot dishes. Been in Florida my whole life, there's barely any common traditions because everyone is from somewhere else.

This, but it's /ck/ after-all.

This is actually pretty common, all my buddies bring their own plates, I keep two or three in the car if we have to go to more than one house in a day. Pretty sure its wide spread

I've never heard of anyone doing this and frankly, I'd be slightly insulted if asked to bring my own plates. Unless my host happens to be desperately poor I'd expect him or her to have enough plates for guests. Pulling something like that in my neighborhood would be regarded as highly unusual and probably result in people talking shit about how you're a lazy motherfucker behind your back.

Explains everything.

Guys stop joking. Florida is suffering a major plate shortage and is doing the best it can to get by. Rick Scott (the governer of Florida for those that don't know) enacted the family plate clause back in 2014 that only allows 1.5 plates per person in the household.

maybe they ask you to bring your own plate so they can make you a togo plate?
