Anyone ever experienced this or know anyone who has?

>> No.9078088

FIRST COMES THE unscratchable itching, and the angry blossoming of hives. Then stomach cramping, and—for the unluckiest few—difficulty breathing, passing out, and even death. In the last decade and a half, thousands of previously protein-loving Americans have developed a dangerous allergy to meat. And they all have one thing in common: the lone star tick.

Red meat, you might be surprised to know, isn’t totally sugar-free. It contains a few protein-linked saccharides, including one called galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, or alpha-gal, for short. More and more people are learning this the hard way, when they suddenly develop a life-threatening allergy to that pesky sugar molecule after a tick bite.

Yep, one bite from the lone star tick—which gets its name from the Texas-shaped splash of white on its back—is enough to reprogram your immune system to forever reject even the smallest nibble of perfectly crisped bacon. For years, physicians and researchers only reported the allergy in places the lone star tick calls home, namely the southeastern United States. But recently it’s started to spread. The newest hot spots? Duluth, Minnesota, Hanover, New Hampshire, and the eastern tip of Long Island, where at least 100 cases have been reported in the last year. Scientists are racing to trace its spread, to understand if the lone star tick is expanding into new territories, or if other species of ticks are now causing the allergy.

Happened to my mom. We didn't know what the fuck was going on when it started, because doctors around here didn't seem to know it was caused by a tick bite at the time.

Takes 24hrs for a tick to transmit a bloodborne illness to it's host, after it's burrow in and has started feeding. If someone doesn't clean/check their body for an entire day in an scenario, ESPECIALLY after playing in fields/hiking, playing in the woods etc etc etc they DESERVE to get that shit.

Sometimes it is permanent, sometimes it is hopefully temporary.

Gonna have to talk to a speciliast.

America didn't use to have this problem in the 1950s to 1960s when we carpetbombed everything with DDT.

Almost made mosquitoes and other nasty pests extinct in America.

That shit is no joke man. lyme gave me Bell's Palsy, I woke up one day and I couldn't feel or move half my face and it took me 3 months to be able to regain the ability to move it again. It absolutely decimates your nerves and once it's progressed far enough you LITERALLY can't get rid of it. The stuff nightmares are made of.

>muh DDT

The damage to the environment with the use of a persistent pesticide all the way up the food chain to the top rung predators was infinitely worse than the handful of people that contract tick and mosquito vectored illnesses which in 1st world countries are easily treatable with antibiotics. Humans alive during that time still have DDT in their fatty tissues. During the widespread use of it, populations of mosquitoes became immune to it's effects as well. And it's use in Africa had little effect on malaria rates.

You're just another cuckservative big agri/chemical shill hellbent on scorching the earth for profit.

Not all of them, though, just some birds of prey.

Those birds of prey aren't even used in human cuisine.

Making mosquitoes, bedbugs, lice, ticks, etc extinct in America would have been good enough of a tradeoff.

>During the widespread use of it, populations of mosquitoes became immune to it's effects as well

No they didn't. When DDT campaign was going on, India in its recorded history, had the lowest cases of malaria ever.

And sorry but there are many mosquitoes/pest related diseases that have no cures.

Don't give me that bullshit about antibiotics that only work on bacteria.

Most mosquito diseases are due to viruses.

Fuck off, hippie. We should start spraying everything with DDT again.

You know what's the worst part with tick-carried diseases ?

THE TIME IT FUCKING TAKES FOR THAT SHIT TO BE DIAGNOSED FOR FUCKS SAKE, THESE MOTHERFUCKERS GO THROUGH YEARS AND YEARS OF STUDIES AND THEY CAN'T EVEN MAKE 1+1 WHEN YOU TELL THEM YOU GOT BITTEN BY A TICK

PLUS, THE TESTS TO DETECT LYME ARE AS FIABLE AS A SPACE ROCKET BUILT IN AFRICA
