Make sure you buy ground beef with as much fat content as you can. 80% if possible, 85% will do, don't buy into this lean beef bullshit, it makes awful burgers

Form into patty shape making a shallow dip in the center

season with salt & pepper

grill or pan fry with a little oil (I use clarified butter) about 4 minutes per side
