So a friend who is a huntsman has caught a deer and given me the front shank+shoulder.
Im not sure how should i go about preparing it best.
Do you have any good venison recipes?
Im leaning towards making it into a nice stew or something

Also general wild game thread I guess

Stew, chili or burritos will be your best bet. Just use any beef stew, burrito or chili recipe. Remember it's tough as hell so you'll need to cook it longer than beef.

Better make a stew with like 8h in the oven.

A huntsman huh? Did he have to bring the deers heart to the Evil Queen so she'd believe he'd killed Snow White for her?

Trust me, don't listen to any of these guys ^^^^
I've tried this recipe exactly as he did it, supplying my own seasoning rather than his suggested. This recipe is easy & requires specifically a venison shoulder. Any other recipe will be subpar if you substitute shoulder for whatever it calls for. This is definitely a crowd-pleaser.

Buddy of mine makes Deer Chili a couple times a year. Good shit.

Maybe cut portions to try what you want. It looks like it has maybe (8?) pounds of readily usable meat. Could do 3 tries of a similar dish over a couple days. Then you have some decent bones with which you might make some sort of tasty stock. I've only used venison twice and it was before I /ck/.

Good luck and post pics

Ill be making stew next once I get a second cut. Im not sure what bit to go for yet.
I need to make the first dish count, my buddy knows me for being a great cook when I know what im doing and will probably have me be a go-to chef whenever he catches something.

I usually make traditional roasts and stews in clay pots
Pic related is a goulash, prepared in the pot and an hour before being finished ive sealed the top with raw dough, the bread came out steamed and juicy and the goulash was quite thick. Im pretty proud of it.
