>They build a McDonald's in your town
>They place it next to a restaurant that sells good burgers for cheaper than McDonald's
>McDonald's still wins somehow

I just wonder how this happens. Are drive thrus really the appeal? Is the appeal the brand name? Does a Big Mac really just taste that much better?

>> No.8954725

It's like a brighter light. People will just head there, instinctively.

Buying shitty products is an American tradition.

There's probably someone out there that went without meals so they could buy a Garfield phone.

God, I'm ready to die.

Brand recognition, that McDonalds signature taste, and the fact that McDonalds has the Happy Meal are all factors here
>Does a Big Mac really just taste that much better?
Yes

McDonalds also serves breakfast, desserts, salads, chicken products made from their signature and famed McChicken etc, so they have a broad appeal as a food stop

This. People hate change, they don't want to gamble on a new place when they can know exactly what they're getting instead.

Restaurants do not sell beefburgers. Fast food bars sell beefburgers. Restaurants sell meals to the waged.

>> No.8954845

They don't build places with better burgers for cheaper. I hate McDonalds, but if you're looking for a good burger for <$.99 you're shit out of luck. And yes, drive-thru windows are a big factor. On the way home from work many people just want to get home fast and not have to deal with walking into the building.

>new mcdonalds built 2 minutes from my house at local shops
>in 1 month was the highest grossing store in the store

funnily enough its built right next to a gym and on the path all the local school kids walk home. the franchise owner owns both the stores i mentioned plus a third and is a fucking multi millionaire. i should have started a mcdonalds franchise.

As a Californian, if I decided to go to Alabama, I can trust the Mcdonalds there to taste identical to here. I can also trust that any mom&pop shop serving burgers there will be radically different compared to here. Humans are creatures of habit. Therefore,

It often is, sometimes not, depending on the location of a store and time of the day

But regardless, some people would still take a longer wait in their cozy automobile enjoying entertainment from their stereos, radios, or whatever than going out into the possibly cold or hot weather possibly with a bunch of kids and standing in line with strangers

Drive thru's work for mostly distracted and overweight women. Next time you go to a restaurant that has one, you should take a few minutes to check it out...its fucking mind boggling that these women are going through getting a 'snack' or whatever before dinner...all the while updating they're bookface acc't at the same time...

> Are drive thrus really the appeal?
Honestly thats probably a huge part of it. I don't go to McDonalds for good food, I go there because I can leave within 3 minutes without even getting in my car

The power of advertising. People want burgers but they are afraid to waste their money on a potentially bad deal. They know McDonald's, they know it won't be life changing but it is consistent. And thus they "make" the decision to go to McDonald's.

Would you rather buy 1 10 dollar burger thats pretty good/great or 10 1 dollsr burgers that are fine/ok.

The mass/volume/whatever of food you get for 10 bucks off a dollar menu is atleast double what you get at other places. Its all about quantity over quality. And speed. It probably takes between 10-20min in total to get your 10 dollar burger when it takes like 2min or lesd for all 10 1 dollar burgers.

Personally I try not to eat much fast food so I would rather make the burgers myself or get the 1 10 dollar burger. But for others, especially lazy fat disgusting americans, they want the greasy 1 dollar burgers.

You can only try so many new things that blow dicks and cost exorbitant amounts of money before you say fuck it and go with something you know is reliable both in taste and price.

Every time I try a new restaurant I check the yelp reviews. Some of my favorite ones have terrible reviews, some of the worst ones are universally praised. There's no accurate way of predicting short of going there and wasting your money, and the prices are usually different than what was listed online.

I have a 350~ lb friend who says the mcdouble (with cheese and ketchup only of course) is the best burger he's ever had. He doesn't eat fruit or vegetables and is still incredibly picky with what that leaves him with; on Thanksgiving he just eats his regular lunch meat sandwich and chips, won't even eat pumpkin pie. He says it takes him a little less than two days to go through a loaf of bread, because he only eats sandwiches at home and eats a lot of them. Kind of off topic but yeah, got triggered by McDonald's.

The franchise fee to open a McDonald's is literally a million dollars.

You have to already be rich to get rich from McDonald's. You're better off trying a chic fil a but they only franchise from the inside so you'd have to work up to at least manager first.

I havent been to mcdonalds in a while until the other day. I got a double quarter pounder and the burger was COMPLETE shit. I used to like mcdonalds. Either the quality of their food has gone to shit or all the other fast food restaurants have upped their burger game.

something like this happen, but with some boutique, i was working on the boutique and some big brand was coming to town, my boss was really scare because he could lose money and was thinking closing the business.

in the end, he stayed on the business and month later we where still working.

my point is just the name of the brand that scare the competence and just quit before starting to compete.

i've recently undertaken a project to think how much i would spend at mcdonalds then spend the same amount at either the burrito or noodle places within a 1 minute walk of the mcdonalds.

If it's a big mac vs a burrito or some kind of ramen then it loses in taste and nutrition but then mcdonalds normally comes with a drink and fries which makes it seem so much better value even though these drinks and fries normally taste bad and don't provide much energy 30 minutes after consumption. Then you can add extra burgers to your order for cheap so mcdonalds is always the best value in terms of overall mass but the worst for long term satisfaction.
people have any evolutionary mechanism to differentiate between food that will keep them full for 5 hours and food that will fill them up for one hour so when it comes to choosing a place to eat our instincts tell us to go for the short term gain
