So I'm going to try and make lasagna for the first time since I have to start cooking for myself. What's the deal with egg and bread crumbs that I see in some recipe and not in others? What purpose does it serve? Should I do this? I also see it done with meat loaf or hamburger patty.

I also don't know shit about seasonings. I got basil, Italian, thyme, parsley, oregano, etc. Anything green or leafy I just bought.

the recipes with the breadcrumbs and egg are probably meat ball recipes.

you don't need it for sunday gravy

Egg, breadcrumbs, and flour is more American. If you use it, you'll have a slightly different taste and the lasagna will hold together better. If you don't, it's more traditional and Italian style. Personally I don't waste my time with flour or egg, it tastes weird.

Here's your herbs in order of importance. Don't be shy with them.
>OREGANO
>thyme
>basil
>parsley

Make sure you also add lots of garlic and paprika.

Egg binds everything together and flour absorbs the water so it can be shaped/so it is denser.

Hamburger patties shouldn't really have egg/flour in them traditionally.

I don't know what lasanga recipes you are looking at but I would just keep it simple and use a tomato based sauce with meat my man.

I have fresh garlic, onion, and tomato. Just need to dice them up. I should have bought a cutting board.

My tablet sitting next to me with youtube videos.

Everyone making their ricotta cheese mixture so differently.

You started off by fucking it up with the egg and bread crumbs.
First of all, you gotta make the bolognese sauce using mirepoix (onions, celery, carrots), ground beef, tomato purée, beef stock, and a pinch of nutmeg and salt.
After you get done cooking that, you need to make bechamel sauce, using milk, flour, butter, nutmeg, and grated cheese.
You also need to cook the pasta before assembling the dish and putting it in the oven.

Now that you got the beef mixed up with eggs, you might as well make meatballs instead. Good luck with that.

lol if this was /g/ you would be the install gentoo guy.

order of cooking: onion + oil first then tomato garlic
make sure you let it simmer until it is pretty thick
Don't stress about the cheese mix so much, it is impossible to make cheese taste bad.

Don't eat it as soon as it comes out of the oven or it will be sloppy and don't leave any of the pasta sheets exposed.

Lasagna sheets that don't require pre cooking are the most popular in my country. When was the last time you cooked lasagna dog?

My last question unless someone brings something else up is the oil used to cook the meat

I already had like a big thing of vegetable oil but everyone uses olive oil so I bought some of that. Shit is expensive god damn.

Is it a taste thing?

Northern Italian people traditionally use butter, although you might as well get olive oil, since you already bought it.

Eat a piece of toast one with vegetable oil and one with olive oil on it and you be the judge.

I have butter in the fridge for the dessert I was going to make.

I've never had toast with oil on it. Well, I guess margarine but normally butter is used here. That's more of my dad's thing.

No one puts vegetable oil on toast because it has no flavour (which is useful)

Many people use olive oil on bread because it has a nice taste.

I just suggested that so you could actually taste the difference.

What the fuck
People feel the need to use flour and egg to bind their lasagne sauce? What the fuck are they, american?

I can't comprehend why anyone would do something so stupid
