Redpill me on freezerburn. Seriously, I froze about 3lbs of store-bought ground beef, please no bully poorfag, and took it out just now and it looks like pic related. No browning, and not quite as icy as pic related.

Is my meat ruined? I know it's safe to eat, but would it be completely dry and tasteless (more so than usual)? Could I still enjoy muh hamburger helper?

it will probably taste ok with hamburger helpter

It's going to be dry and tasteless. The only shit that I find freezer-burned meat good for is making stock with. Just eat it in your shitty hamburger helper. The sauce is basically all you taste anyways

Do a chili, simple as that. I've done it with freezer burned venison and it's fine. Just realize you can't be making burgers or something. You'll have to use spices and stewing to disguise. No big deal.

Chili, Hamburger Helper, Manwich sauce are all good options. Pretty much anything that is saucy to rehydrate the meat and hide any funky fridge odors which may have worked itself into the meat from being frozen that long.

Shit now I want a manwich.

I only froze it for a week. I guess I didn't seal my freezer bag all the way. Not sure how it happened.

Here's a neat trick since you obviously don't have a vacuum packer. Pack the meat into a ziploc freezer bag, fill a large pan with cold water and put the bag in it bottom first keeping the ziploc area above the water. Gently squeeze from the bottom up and you have close to a vacuum pack. It won't last as long as a true vacuum packed, but it will go nicely for a couple months. Try it. It works.
