I remember seeing a thread on /trv/ where a /trav/eller told his story of ordering something random from a menu in Korea.

He ranted that he was served nothing but "a whole chicken in salty, plain water without anything".
Pic related, I searched for the dish, it is called Samgyetang and actually supposed to be this way.

Been wanting to try it since.

Except that's completely incorrect

Sounds like a dish even a cu/ck/ could make at home for himself anon ...

yeah thats completely wrong, its filled with stickyrice, jujube and chestnut and is served in broth with garlic and ginger and ginseng, i always add pinenuts as well.
its healthy, delicious and kind of easy to prepare.
Also there are almost no places serving it which arent specialised in it in korea

Well baby I LOVE me some kimchi friend rice.

Also I'm seeking grandma-tier recipes for kimchi. Who has some? I probably have most of the accoutrements already

Dog is an intrinsic part of Korean cuisine, anon. By trying to stifle discussion of it and thereby sent them their cultural heritage you show yourself up as the real racist.

its a very nice chickensoup but obviously doesnt pack the punch korean food usually does, since its supposed to be mild.
I normally use small whole chicken, if i can only find a normally sized one ill cook it the same way but cut it in half when its done, you can warm the remaining half up the next day in the soup if you dont share the meal with anyone. you can get jujube from amazon or from most asian markets, same as ginseng (fresh is either very expensive or not available, so dont worry going for dried, use more than the recipe states though, since dried is less intense)

And you like to throw in some pine nuts as well? This sounds delicious; I'll try and make this in the coming weeks. My best friend is Korean and he's thrilled when we make stuff like this.

yeah i got it from the recipe i linked you, its his idea. Its not traditional but it gives the whole thing another layer and works very well with the chestnuts, which are traditional, for a more earthy flavour.
Since you are interested in korean cooking i can also totally recommend the kimchijiggae from this dudes website, its one of my go-to dishes when its cold outside and he also innovated it by adding butter
